Immigration in Germany – a sad story

Many would agree to the statememt that Germany is a country of self-moaning and self-critizism. Especially from the outside this often seems exaggerated and unfounded. But the real problem is not the underestimation of our own strength but it is: dangerous self reference. This counts especially for the inability to face questions of immigration which are key to solving problems like demographic change, innovation and globalization. These questions are simply not adressed by any party, politican or lobby group.

No.50: Hannes Metz in the mix

Hannes Metz is one of the people behind Caffeine, a new and hot party series in different locations in Berlin. Had I been able to walk last friday (too much football..) I would have attended their fest at Ballhaus Ost with Matthias Tanzmann for sure.

Now I revcovered and can dance around in my apartment not only because I am so happy to finally post the 50th DJ set (!) but rather because this is such a nice and funky, deep tech house mix, with reduced melodies and surprising effects that make a worthy jubilee mix

Zieh deinen iPod an!

Dein Design Design Das derzeit populärste Design: Composition No.1Ich habe mal im Freundeskreis rumgefragt, wer denn so seinen iPod bekleben würde und die Reaktionen waren interessant: Die Hälfte waren Puristen, die würden nichts Klebendes in die Nähe kommen lassen, sondern schlagen das Kleinood pur in golddurchwirkte Tücher ein (oder so), die anderen waren der Idee nicht abgeneigt. Und das ist wohl genau die Zielgruppe von DeinDesign.

Hier kann man sich Folien bestellen, die sich auf iPods, Laptops und Handies kleben lassen. Auch Plattenspieler sind im Gespräch, aber dazu schweigt der Shop noch. Außerdem kann man seine eigenen Designs hochladen und von DeinDesign als Folie produzieren lassen.

“Die waren erst mal geschockt. Die hatten ja nicht einmal gewusst, dass die Optionen wegfallen, wenn ich freiwillig gehe. Die dachten, der Vertrag wäre wasserdicht.”
Max Buskohl, der sich freiwillig von DSDS verabschiedete im sehr lesenswerten Stern-Interview mit ein paar netten Hintergründen. Die Musik seiner Band Empty Trash ist aber nicht so besonders, wenn man ehrlich ist, sogar richtig üble Rocksoße. Einen Produzenten brauchen sie allein schon damit der ihnen mal das Timing grade zieht.

Yes, building stuff in Second Life can be a complex issue.

“To make this, I used PDFs from our architects as a base to trace all the walls on 11 layers in an Adobe Illustrator file, then exported each floor as an XML-based Scalable Vector Graphics file, each of which I ran through a PHP script to extract the object info and convert it to something I could paste in a notecard. Then I made 11 objects (the little cubes in front of me in the video) that scoot themselves off to a predetermined location, spew out prims based on the notecards, and send them to their appropriate positions. The next step, is to rez this on the ground, terraform, and then texture-bake every single prim…”

This is an awesome remix of Grandmaster Flash’s “the message”. It uses a harmonizer that puts a melody behind Grandmaster’s rap and sports some reeeeally heavy-eighty synthie-bass. I played it on party on monday and everybody went nuts and came to ask me the name of the song. Well folks, here it is:

Hedonist International: Dance to a political movement

The Hedonist International is a very liberal yet very social idea and community of people who have some very unconcrete ideas about politics but very concrete and unusual methods of actions, e.g. entering the tv tower of Berlin and turning the slow moving tourist viewing platform (and old-fashioned restaurant) into a gigantic party space or pro-war demonstrations.
