The Beastles

BeastlesThis might be not in the web for long: MP3 IconThe Beastles are mash-up remixes between the Beatles and the Beastie Boys. The producer is DJ BC, a DJ from Boston. He certainly got inspired by the “grey album”: a project of the now famous DJ Dangermouse who took the Beatles’s “White Album” and remixed it mash-up style with Jay-Z’s black album. The “Grey album” became the most downloaded piece of music ever and Dangermouse was eventually hired as a producer for the second Gorillaz album. The Beastles is not as good as the grey album, but has its charme. Actually, I like his crazy mix of Dee-Lite, The Doors, Salt’n’Pepa and Donna Summer more: MP3 IconGroovy Burnin’ Heart.

Blinkenlights documentation

Blinkenlights1One of the most amazing media installations ever was “Blinkenlights” in Berlin 2002. I just found the Movieicon documentation video via their podcast. You must watch it, it kicks you off your feet!

The hacker commmunity Chaos Computer Club (CCC) used the abandoned skyscraper “Haus des Lehrers” on Alexanderplatz to turn the windows facade into a gigantic monochromatic screen. Over 8 floors with 144 spot lights formed this huge interactive display that could be seen even hundreds of metres from above.

Open Logo and update

Open LogoBefore I upgrade to WordPress 2.0 I want to wite about a nice project of the very succesful company Spreadshirt. “You think it, we print it” is their claim, their strategy is to encourage people to build shops with their help and then sell products with their own designs, like all sorts of clothes, buttons or bags. The Spreadshirt community is diverse: Political activists, bands, celebrities and so on. Maybe I should start to sell stuff with the Stylewalker-Logo.. Would anybody buy this?

A new favourite

I have a new blog in my Blogroll: We make money not art/. A European girl (Belgian, lived in Italy, Spain, wants to come to Berlin – good choice!..) writes about art, advertising, media and so on.

I liked especially her finding of the project “Folk Songs for the Five Points” which “uses “folk songs” as a metaphor to explore immigration and the formation of identity in New York’s Lower East Side.”

Good selections, good writing, always some interesting ideas. Mr Moving Canvas was featured there, too!

Update: I found a nice interview with Régine Debatty, the girl behind “we make money not art” [via Audibleblog]

Axel Dupeux

Axel Dupeux is a Paris based photographer who publishes very expressive and strong portraits on his website. He is also a very professional fashion photographer and I think also a teacher. I met him once and immediately liked him and especially the fact that he seems to find a real good balance between being an artist and a professional freelancer.

Campaign Portfolio

An interactive portfolio about the online campaigning in the 2005 German election is now online. Produced by Face2Net it is a very interesting resumée on all the different instruments, pages and strategies that were used for the very succesful SPD campaign.
